Greetings.
We had a rather busy week in teaching Institute classes. We have one regular class each week and then we were asked to teach three other classes for the two directors who had meetings in Cebu.
The classes we taught were all (except for our regular class) from the Old Testament. Since the classes are one hour and forty minutes long they always include two lessons. I taught from the book of Job and Teresa taught from the book of 1st Kings.
I would like to share a thought from the lesson about Job. The thought comes from "the Lectures on Faith" by Joseph Smith. In order for a person to endure in faithfulness in this life he must know these three things:
1 That God exists
2 That God is perfect in his character and in his attributes.
3 that the course of life which a person pursues is pleasing to the Lord.
Job had these three things. He had his testimony about the existence of God and that He is perfect. Knowing that God is perfect allows us to trust in him even when we don't understand the meaning of all things. Job was able to withstand the accusations of "advisor friends" that he was being punished because of his unrighteousness.
It is important for us to keep the commandments and standards and council from living Prophets. When we do these things we our confidence will "wax strong in the presence of the Lord" and we can know that, although we are not perfect in all things, that the Lord is pleased with the course we are pursuing.
